It only takes a glance at the calendars in our bookstores to see that nature is one of our favorite subjects.
Though Cape Town may not have the ‘big game’ it certainly has a staggering amount of natural beauty. This workshop focuses on the art of seeing and capturing this beauty from the little things to the big (macro to landscape).

HIGHLIGHTS: The ‘How-to’ of macro, insect & flower photography the ‘How-to’ of silky waterfalls, Landscape composition techniques, white balance tricks, outdoor flash techniques & much more.
Point & Shoot: Many of these cameras have amazing macro functions as well as a dedicated landscape feature. If you want to photograph birds an optical zoom of at least 6x will be necessary but 10X or more is best. To make the most of the above techniques your camera needs to capable of changing aperture, exposure compensation, white balance and flash settings (many of the new cameras have these features just look in your manual).
Enthusiast: Single DLSR body. All in one zoom lens such as 18-200mm or a combination of an 18-70mm and a 70-300mm will be very useful (anything in this sort of focal range). If you’re keen to photograph birds Sigmas 50-500mm lens is a good choice. A light weight tripod is highly recommended
Serious enthusiast: Two DSLRs bodies. A dedicated macro lens such as 105mm, a wide angle lens 20mm or less, a 70-200mm lens and most of the optional accesories. For keen bird photographers a 80-400mm lens or a 300mm F4. A sturdy tripod is essenatil.
Optional accessories: Tripod, External Flash, Camera bag, Polarizing Filter, N-grad filters, Cable Release, Camera Cleaning Equipment, Spare Batteries & Memory Cards
We Don’t Recommend: Large telephoto lenses such as 500mm F4 as we’ll be doing a fair share of walking, the combined weight with tripod can become uncomfortable
If you don’t have a tripod is very easy to make a ‘bean bag’, just buy a ziplock plastic bag and fill it with a 2kg sealed bag of rice. You can tape up the zip seal to ensure it stays airtight.
