HIGHLIGHTS: Rare opportunity to photograph in a township. Learn the tricks to candid ‘in the moment’ photography which can be invaluable for your next trip where photographing locals is one of the highlights.
For the township we recommend travelling light with one camera and zoom lens
Point & Shoot: A camera with at least a 6x optical zoom (10X or more is best). To make the most of the above techniques your camera needs to be capable of changing aperture, exposure compensation, white balance and flash settings (many of the new cameras have these features just look in your manual).
Enthusiast: Single DLSR. All in one zoom lens such as 18-70mm, 24-120mm or 18-200mm, 70-300mm (lenses anywhere in these approx ranges and fixed lens such as 50mm and 85mm are also quite popular)
Serious Enthusiast: Two DSLRs maximum. Zoom lens like 24-120mm F4, 70-200m F2.8, Fixed lens like 50mm & 85mm F1.8 or even F1.2. A wide angle lens 24mm or less can also be handy.
We Don’t Recommend: Big conspicuous lenses (300mm maximum) or a tripod as this is in the moment photography, a monopod can be used though.
Our Pro will be using a 70-200mm F2.8 on a Nikon D2x and a 16-85mm lens on a D90. Almost all the photos taken in our township gallery are taken with the 16-85mm lens
Optional accessories: External Flash, Camera bag, Polarizing Filter, Spare Batteries & Memory Cards.
