WHAT YOU WILL BE PHOTOGRAPHING
The rugged coastline from Sunrise Beach Muizenberg to Hermanus offers one of the most beautiful drives in South Africa. With cliffs, rocky promontories, reefs, islets and blue waters it is a visual celebration of nature’s splendour.
In the winter and spring months there are whales, flowers and rough seas. In summer the whales return to their feeding grounds but the oceans calm down to offer breath taking seascape photography.
You will begin this journey from the city to Sunrise Beach where you will travel east along Baden Powell drive which runs for 30km alongside uninterrupted white sand beaches. Other than waves, local fisherman and seascapes there is also a great opportunity to photograph seabirds in flight from the vantage cliff points.
You will bypass the largest township in Cape Town, Khayelitsha where there is a opportunity to get an incredible overview photo of thousands of its homes. You will then continue onto the towns of Gordons Bay and Strand before re-joining the marine drive. The most spectacular scenery follows with Koeël or Cannonball Bay and its beautiful beaches, Rooiels with its red waters, Pringle Bay with its hanging rock, Bettys Bay with its African Penguins and Botanical Gardens and Klienmond with its picturesque river mouth. Your journey ends at Hermanus which even without whales is still a remarkable beautiful setting to stop and enjoy lunch on its shores.
The journey back is no less spectacular as you will return along a different route, inland behind the mountains where you past through the heart of the apple growing region in Elgin and onto a spectacular lookout over the False Bay from Sir Lowrys pass.
